ALPINE, Calif. – Crews fight a brush fire that destroyed Interstate 8 at Alpine Friday
The fire quickly spread from its origin near West Willows Road to the 39th. west along the south side of Interstate 8 towards populated areas. Several houses burned while fire reached 350 acres at 0% confinement at 14:30.
Shortly after 4 pm, the fire had reached 400 acres and was confined to 5%

An alpine firefighter was hospitalized after suffering minor burns on the side of his face. We expect that it will be released tomororw.
