UPDATE (2:42) – Santa Barbara County has proclaimed a local emergency because of the holiday fire that is burning in Goleta.

County authorities say the proclamation ensures that all county resources are available for fire-fighting efforts.


UPDATE (2:35) – The California Governor's Emergency Services Office has been awarded a Fire Management Assistance Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for help cover the costs. of fire fighting holiday in Goleta.

The federal grant will help local and state agencies that respond to the fire to claim a refund of 75% of their eligible fire extinguishing costs.

UPDATE (11:20 pm) – Fire Captain of Santa Barbara County, Dave Zaniboni, says 20 structures were lost burning in Goleta.

Evacuation orders were extended from La Patera Ln. at Patterson Ave. North of Cathedral Oaks,

Zaniboni claims that the fire drives Fairview Avenue into populated areas and is uncontrollable without containment. He says the winds have calmed down a bit, but he was "really screaming" earlier tonight.

Zaniboni says that the cause of the fire is not yet known.


UPDATE (22:55 pm) – Reports CAL FIRE that 35 acres were burned up right here in the holiday fire.

Emergency officials say that 911 lines are stranded in the Goleta area because of the fire. People are asked to call 911 only in case of emergency.
