The City of Derry and the District Council of Strabane state that thousands of people have already visited the dock
The smell of Italian food and Donegal fish floats on the Foyle River as you stand under the ferris wheel of the Londonderry wharf.
The Maritime Festival has become one of the city's favorite events and thousands of people enjoy the atmosphere already.
The nine-day festival focuses on the city's rich maritime heritage, but also celebrates the return of the Clipper race around the world.
Some of the crew members traveled around the world. Now, they are resting along the dock with a coffee or beer brewed locally.

The Mayor of Derry City and the District Council of Strabane, John Boyle, have declared : The local economy
"For every £ 1 that council has invested in this festival, we see £ 2.20 return to the economy.
" It's great for the hotels, restaurants and bars. "
Food stalls along the wharf have been popular with French and Italian cuisine on the menu
The event coordinator, Helena Hbadon, said: "The opening weekend of the Foyle Maritime Festival has been superb."
"Thousands of people have already participated.All came to see the Clipper yachts and enjoy the large number of events taking place along the river, including our Flavors of the Foyle and the excursions by boat from the Irish Navy. "
" We have good musical programming on our main stage throughout the week also in the festival village. "

A fire and water show attracted thousands of people in 2014
A spectacular show called Travels will be held in the Foyle River on Friday night with a firework display
It will be a journey through time into an evening of music, dance and theater.
Lifford's Conerry Morrison of Derry and Roseann McGlinchey returned to the crowd after 11 months at sea.

They finished their penultimate race in seventh place after making the 3,000 nautical mile trip from New York through the Atlantic Ocean.
The local duo spent a little over 14 days to complete the sixth and final ocean crossing of its one year circumnavigation.
Mary Loughrey of Strabane told BBC News NI: "It's really refreshing to see so many smiling faces along the wharf. [19659006] "There has been a lot of negativity in the media recently, so it's very nice to see.
" I took my four kids to try different foods, of course all that They wanted, it was sweet donuts. "
" I hope everyone likes the week and absorbs sounds and smells. Derry knows how to make a show. "
