A camera from the body of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer captured the high-speed murderous pursuit of two suspects, during which the officer opened fire through the screen. breeze from his police vehicle. The affiliate of CBS, KLAS, reports. The agents involved were identified as William Umana and Paul Solomon. Police were investigating a shooting at a car wash earlier in the morning when a man was shot multiple times; he died later.
Police said the police spotted the suspects in a stolen black SUV about two hours later, and a high-speed chase ensued. During the chase, the two suspects fired nearly three dozen shots of their vehicle at police officers, the police said. The suspects even drove into oncoming traffic during their efforts to escape.
Camera body images show police officers following closely, deflecting traffic and accelerating after the black SUV. Agent Umana, who has worked for Metro Police for 17 years, is asking for help on his radio. "Shots were fired, shots were fired," he said. He then started shooting the SUV through the windshield of his car.
The glbad did not break; instead, the bullets made precise holes in the windshield. Umana shot a total of 31 bullets during the shooting, and the suspects fired 34 rounds, Metro Police said.
"This is not something we are training for, but we are ready," Deputy Sheriff Tim Kelly said at a press conference Monday. "As you can see, the officer pulled his weapon, once behind him, and fired a clear pattern through his window to try to stop this threat."
One of the suspects was hit and the SUV is seen drifting off the road, toward a building. Umana's body camera shows him getting out of his car, shotgun in hand, still firing as he heads for the SUV, which had stopped.
A suspect, identified as Fidel Miranda, 22, was still inside. He was taken to the hospital where he died. The other suspect, identified as Rene Nunez, 30, fled the SUV. He was caught and booked in the Clark County Detention Center. The charges brought by Nunez include an open murder with a deadly weapon, an badault with a deadly weapon, the unloading of a firearm from a moving vehicle, and a prohibited person with a firearm, reports KLAS.
Police on Monday released images of Umana's body camera at a press conference, where they also discussed more details about the shocking pursuit and shooting.
Deputy Sheriff Kelly praised the officers for their "bravery, professionalism, heroism".
"The officer could have backed down, but he did not," Kelly said. "The video paints a clear picture of that."
