Ryanair fired six cabin crew members involved in a photo of the latter, who appeared to be lying on the ground at the Madrid airport, as they had nowhere to sleep when their planes fell to the ground because of bad weather.

In a statement, Ryanair confirmed that the six cabin crew members in Portugal had been fired yesterday for breach of contract for serious misconduct.

The airline said it staged a fake photo in support of a false claim (widely reported in international media) that they were forced to sleep on the ground in the crew hall of Malaga .

Ryanair said that this behavior had damaged the reputation of their employer and caused what they called an "irreparable" breach of trust with the six staff members.

After posting the photo on social media, Ryanair apologized for the fact that the staff could not find accommodation.

However, the airline subsequently broadcast CCTV footage of the crew room apparently showing that the photo had been taken and that there were a number of plastic seats in the room.

It is unclear whether staff members have been informed of the surveillance of the room or whether their permission has been requested to broadcast the footage.
