Safety is not a problem at the "optimistic" funeral of Novichok's victim Dawn Sturgess

M arrived at the Salisbury Crematorium on Monday afternoon, dressed in bright colors to pay tribute to Dawn Sturgess, a "happy" mom who died after being in contact with the neurological agent of novichok agent.

A black hearse carried Sturgess's light wooden casket, which was surmounted by a plume of yellow flowers and a crisp white reef that spelled "Mom". His family, which included two eldest sons (Aidan, 23, and Ewan, 19), as well as an 11-year-old daughter, arrived separately in two limousines.

Before the burial, there had been security concerns given the power of Novichok, which was used to poison Sergei and Yulia Skripal earlier in the year. Reports have suggested that there would be no porters and that those who carry the Sturgess coffin might have to wear protective clothing.

Although there was no parade in the Crematorium, funeral directors Chris White, who had worked closely with Public Health England, carried the casket of the hearse.

"In the end, nothing was different," said Rev. Philip Bromiley, who hosted the ceremony. "I was able to touch the coffin and make the last referral as I would have done in any other service."
