A shootout was reported Thursday morning during a bank robbery on Merrick Street and three bank employees were shot dead, authorities said.
Two of the women were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital and the third to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital, said MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky. Their wounds were not considered lethal, but Zavadsky said the shots were serious
The shooting was reported shortly before 9:30 am at Veritex Bank, 2424 Merrick Street.
Police are looking for at least two male suspects who are heavily armed. Police said the two men entered the bank and opened fire. There were other employees in the building who were not injured, Sgt. Chris Britt says:
The suspects fled the scene, perhaps in a vehicle, he said.
Britt said the officers were still trying to determine whether there was an attempted robbery. An agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is on the scene
Police and emergency vehicles converged on the area shortly after the shooting was reported and spread in the vicinity. Residents could be seen talking to the police and giving them statements.
People from the area's shops came out and watched a police helicopter fly over the area just south of Westover Hills.
Investigators check if there are security videos inside the bank.
The police did not publish the descriptions of the suspects and asked residents to call 911 when they saw a suspicious activity.
