Subcontractors protest in front of new schools in Wexford and Wicklow for payments still due

Subcontractors gathered this morning outside the newly built schools in Wexford and Wicklow to protest the payment of their work.

About 14 million euros would be due to various small businesses following the collapse of two companies that ran the construction of schools

Many protesters at Loreto High School in Wexford say that they lost tens of thousands of euros and were forced to lay off staff.

Larry Power of Sky-High Scaffolding told South East Radio that he wanted the Minister of Education to solve the problem

"It's very serious and if Richard Bruton wants as his schools open, tell him to come meet us and bring a big Check with him and we will have schools open in two weeks for him.

"We will not go to abandon. We will lie in the street if we have to – morning, noon and night. Because this thing to mistreat [sub-contractors] went beyond a joke. "
