Tesco General Manager in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Charles Wilson, Leaves the Board following a diagnosis of throat cancer.

In a statement today, Tesco says that in May and June Mr. Wilson underwent daily radiation therapy.

"The good news is that Charles responded very well to the treatment and all the signs show that the treatment was successful." Said the company

Mr. Wilson will remain a member of Tesco's Executive Committee, where he will devote himself to leading the Booker sector, continuing to generate cost synergies and steer the growth program defined in the Merger Agreement

.As a member of the Executive Committee, he will contribute to the Broader strategy of Tesco UK, said the group

Jason Tarry, currently Group Product Director, will become Managing Director of UK and Irish activities

Andrew Yaxley, currently Managing Director in Ireland, will be promoted to the group product manager and join the Tesco executive committee.

All changes of responsibilities will be effective from July 16.

Last month Tesco revived In the Irish grocery wars for the first time since 2015.
