A man who opened fire on an intruder who allegedly broke into his home in Colorado was shot dead by a police officer who fired on the scene, authorities said.
The Aurora Police Department reported that the police arrived on a "very chaotic and violent" scene early Monday around 1:30 pm while they were answering multiple 911 calls regarding a disruption in the area of North Iola Street and East Montview Boulevard.
In an article on the ministry's website, police chief Nick Metz said that the call center had also received a 911 call from a woman in the interior of the department. a house on East Montview Boulevard that a man "was breaking into her home".
When the officers arrived, said Metz, they heard gunshots inside the house and met an armed man.

The gunman, however, was identified as Richard "Gary" Black Jr. by Siddhartha Rathod, a lawyer representing the estate of his family.

"It's a very heartbreaking and tragic situation for all involved," said Aurora police chief Metz. "We provide help through our victim advocates to help the family of the deceased through this very difficult time."
The agent involved was placed in administrative rebadignment with pay, in accordance with departmental policy. The police department said it would hold a press conference later this week to give more information about the incident.
