There is so much CO2 in the atmosphere that tree planting can no longer save us – Tech

Humans emit about 30 to 40 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere each year. If we continue this momentum, the Earth will continue to heat up and devastate our way of life.

So what can we do about it?

Most scientists agree that we need a way to capture some of this CO2 from the atmosphere. One idea is to plant a lot of trees. Trees use CO2 to grow. They also release oxygen, so it's win-win.

But studies indicate that we simply can not grow enough trees to capture the required amount of CO2 that would help us achieve the goals set by the Paris Agreement.

In truth, we would need to cover the entire contiguous United States with trees to capture 10% of the CO2 we emit each year.

There is simply not enough space on this planet to dispose of the farmland needed to feed the world, plus the ability to plant the necessary number of trees.

In other words, many of us would starve if we tried to use trees to solve our problem of emissions.
