Skygazers on the lookout for the rare lunar eclipse "moon of blood "were disappointed the clouds largely obscured the celestial phenomenon.
After weeks of uninterrupted sunshine and cloudless skies, thunderstorms swept through parts of the UK on Friday, concealing what would have been the longest heavenly event of the 21st century.
Hope groups camped on Primrose Hill were treated to the dark sky with the only light coming from the London skyline
The lunar eclipse, which lasted about 103 minutes, saw the "total" phase end around 10:13 pm, the moon pbading through the darkest shadow of the Earth and taking a red luster.
But a gray blanket ruined any chance of people sighting in Hampshire and Wiltshire in the south and southwest, in Hull in east Yorkshire, in Liverpool in the northwest and in Dublin, Ireland.
Social Media Users Quickly Published Sarcastic tweets about how their vision of the celestial event was great, with much to lament the fact that the sky was clear.
For those who were lucky, and unlike a solar eclipse, the lunar event could be seen without wearing protective gear.
Some British were luckier though, the Grenadier Guards in Iraq posting footage showing troops watching a red-stung moon hanging in clear skies.

The next total lunar eclipse in the United Kingdom will take place on 19 January 2019.
