UK weather forecast: Storm Adrian hits for Halloween as Hurricane Oscar threatens to wash out fireworks

Halloween revellers could face some scary weather conditions today as Storm Adrian arrives from Europe.

Trick or treaters are advised to wrap up warm and dry as the Met Office predicts a wet and near-freezing Halloween night.

Heavy rainfall is forecast after Storm Adrian caused severe flooding in Italy and the Alps, with conditions set to get worse before the week is out.

The weather system will then make way for Hurricane Oscar, which will sweep in from the Atlantic at the weekend, threatening firework displays.

Oscar is barrelling across the Atlantic and could hit the UK at the same time as a separate low pressure system bringing stormy conditions over the weekend.

If the low system hits on its own, it could become Storm Deirdre, which is the next named storm on the list.

Hurricane Oscar, currently packing 105mph winds near Bermuda, is set to spin across the Atlantic and pbad north of Scotland on Saturday and Sunday, bringing wind and rain just in time for bonfire night.

As millions plan weekend Guy Fawkes bonfires and fireworks, the Met Office warned of 65mph gusts in the Northern higher parts, with 50mph winds predicted in the West.

Warnings have been put in place as hurricane Oliver is set to batter the UK

Firework displays could be under threat across the weekend

But it doesn’t look like any part of the country will be let off, with average blustery conditions of 39mph for most, plus a rain band sweeping the country.

The Weather Outlook warned of fireworks shows being cancelled due to high winds.

Forecaster Brian Gaze said: “It’s nightmare Halloween weather for some – and ex-Hurricane Oscar’s gales risk firework shows being cancelled at the weekend.”

And trick-or-treaters face downpours tomorrow in the South-East, North-West and Scotland, with a freezing night ahead.

Met Office forecaster Nicola Maxey said: “Trick-or-treaters should wrap up warm and dress for the conditions, with Wednesday evening seeing fairly heavy rain in the South-East and showers in the North-West and Scotland. Night-time lows will be around freezing.

Northern parts are most at risk of being hit by stormy weather

“The remnants of Oscar will head north of the UK at the weekend, bringing wet and windy weather and potentially stormy conditions.

“Much of the country is looking at blustery conditions, with 35 to 45mph gusts and up to 65mph gusts in exposed higher parts in the North.”

Oscar is also set to drench the country with bands of heavy rain moving across some parts.

Nicola Maxey added: “Friday night and through Saturday could see heavy rain as a rain band moves south-east from the North-West to the Midlands, reaching the South-East later on Sunday.”
