Waterford will play an important role in European agritech development after WIT has been appointed coordinator of the new € 20 million SmartAgriHubs project
Waterford will be one of nine regional clusters across the EU that will serve as agritech innovation centers as part of a new 20 million euro project called SmartAgriHubs
Launched by the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Development Rural, Phil Hogan, this morning (July 9), Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)
The end goal is that through each of the nine regional clusters, a pan-European network of digital innovation centers and centers of competence in the 28 European Member States can be extended to farmers, advisers and agricultural SMEs. collaborate with research centers and higher education institutions active in research.
As part of the project, 80 new solutions will be introduced on the market, 6 million euros being reserved for open tenders.
As Regional Coordinator, WIT, through its Telecommunications Software and Systems Research Center (TSSG), will be the central point of contact for the people who will be involved in the project.
The Teagasc agri-food research group, which will lead two flagship experiments in the field of advanced agritech, is among those who should work with WIT
