Temperatures across the country plunged to below 0C on Thursday morning amid fears that snow could be on the way.
Latest weather forecasts have suggested that snow may fall in the northern parts of the UK.
However, a forecaster has dismissed the chances of of a ‘white Halloween’ in Ireland. A Met Eireann spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Over the next two weeks the weather should be fairly settled.
“Temperatures for this time of year are fairly average, but it will get colder towards next weekend (October 27).
“While it is to get cold by the end of the month, at the moment our forecasts show no indication that it should snow over the next two weeks.”
Katesbridge in Co Down, Northern Ireland, was one of the coldest spots in Ireland at -4C on Thursday. It was one of the coldest temperatures of the season so far.
Forecasts suggest freezing nights are in store as autumn comes to an end, but it’s not time to get out the snow mobiles.
Temperatures as low as -2C were recorded in the midlands in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The national forecaster expect it to be slightly warmer over Thursday night with temperatures ranging from 2C to 7C. Friday will mostly dry and temperatures may rise to 15C during the day, before a warm weekend for this time of the year.
Met Eireann said: “Mainly dry, settled weather continuing, with just a little patchy light rain or drizzle at times, mainly in western and northern coastal areas, but becoming more widespread for a time later Saturday night into Sunday. Temperatures will be close to normal, a little below normal in places.”
The national forecaster’s long range forecast up to October 26 still shows no sign of snow.
On next week’s weather, it said: “Mainly dry, with some bright spells, but with a good deal of cloud overall. A little patchy mist and drizzle will occur, mainly along north and northwest coasts.
“Quite cool, with daytime temperatures mostly in the low teens. Breezy at first, with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds on Tuesday, becoming light to moderate from midweek.”
