Is the Demon’s Souls remake coming to PC?

The Demon’s Souls remake was released on November 12, 2020 as a PS5 launch game, but it’s a bit confusing whether it will remain exclusive on the new console or ultimately arrive on PC, via Steam, or another digital storefront. . Below we will analyze some of the messages provided by Sony about the possibility of a PC version of Demon’s Souls and speculate whether or not we believe that will happen.

Is Demon’s Souls Remake getting a PC version?

A first gameplay trailer for the remake of Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls ended with a screen clearly stating in the footnote: “Also available on PC”. It also called the game “PlayStation exclusive”, with the additional note “Not available on other consoles for a limited time.” This led many to believe that the Demon’s Souls remake was a PS5 console launch exclusive and would eventually make its way to other platforms, including PC.

According to Sony, this message was “human error”. The trailer was quickly taken apart and replaced with a new version of the trailer that didn’t include the PC ad. When pressed to clarify by Kotaku whether or not that means Demon’s Souls is do not coming to PC, a Sony rep said, “Yes, it’s just PS5.”

In August 2020, however, a corporate report from Sony expressed the company’s interest in porting more of its proprietary titles to PC “in order to promote further growth in our profitability.” We’ve seen this strategy play out before with the launch of proprietary Sony titles like Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam months, if not years, after launching on PS4. Bloodborne, a PS4 exclusive since its launch in 2015 and another incredibly successful FromSoftware IP, is among the most requested by PC gamers. The Demon’s Souls remake, which Tamoor Hussain called “an absolute hit” in our Demon’s Souls review, could be coming to PC.

“It’s just PS5”, says Sony – But is it really?

Whether Demon’s Souls will eventually find its way to PC remains to be seen, but it honestly seems likely. The mixed message, as well as the fact that Demon’s Souls is a PS5 launch game on a console with a fairly slim launch lineup of exclusives, certainly makes us suspect that Sony isn’t giving us all the answers just yet. Dark Souls games have been hugely successful across multiple platforms, including PC, so keeping Demon’s Souls any remake on PS5 does not appear to be in line with Sony’s reported change in strategy regarding proprietary titles.

Still, the short answer is no – according to current Sony messaging, Demon’s Souls remake is not available on PC. But with a 92 on Metacritic so far, he’s already enjoying a ton of critical acclaim, so we’re not giving up hope just yet.
