JTA – A video shows an Israeli being attacked by a group of people at a pro-Palestinian event in Berlin.

In a clip published by Ruptly, which belongs to the Russian governmental network RT, about a dozen men are pushed and beaten before police officers can escort him away from the crowd.

The Jerusalem Post identifies this man as Daniel Gurfinkel, a 27-year-old Israeli clarinettist who studies at the Hanns Eisler Academy in Berlin. He said the incident occurred last week.

The newspaper cited a statement by Gurfinkel in which he reportedly said he attended the event protesting that Israel is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest of 2019 and has been trying to defend his country.

"The attack started immediately when I started supporting my country with one word," he said. "I was hit in the head and I'm hurt so far. I was in total shock. "

Gurfinkel told the Post that the police had not taken the attack seriously enough.

"The police treated the incident with great indifference and did not immediately arrest the attackers," he said. "As you can see in the video. The police did not protect me immediately and it took more than 5 minutes. "
