The upcoming Indian International Film Festival, to be held in Goa, will feature 212 films from 68 countries, an organizer announced Friday.
The festival will open with the film "The Aspern Papers" by Julien Landais, based on a novel by the famous writer Henry James. The star actors, including Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Joely Richardson, Julia Robins, Morgane Polanski and Nicholas Howe, will be present at the opening day of the event, which runs from November 20 to 28.
"The section of the international competition has 15 films, three of which are Indian, something that has been compulsory for some time … and the competition section represents films produced and co-produced by 22 different countries", festival Director Chaitanya Prasad said.
Prasad added that Israel had been chosen as the target country of the event. It will include a series of films from the country of the Middle East.
"Regarding the countries, in the international section, there are about 144 international films from 68 countries.There are 15 famous films that will compete for the price of gold peabad.We have two first filmmakers who have qualified for the international competition section, "he said.
"There are two international premieres, 15 Asian premieres and about 60 Indian premieres," Prasad said, adding that 15 films screened for the occasion were also Oscar-nominated.
The festival will also feature a retrospective section of Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.
