The Shin Bet security service said Wednesday that it had partnered with seven private Israeli start-ups to find unconventional approaches to technological challenges. Startups, chosen from among the 100 candidates for Shin Bet's first accelerator, focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, data-driven prediction, automated document scanning and misinformation, a spokesman said. word.

"This decision reflects our understanding that there are brains on the outside, people who do not have the personality or skills for a government job but who have a new approach and technologies we could wish for, "said the spokesman.

Each startup received a $ 50,000 grant to develop a response to a Shin Bet task, whose roles include counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and security for Israeli government officials and diplomatic missions abroad. The venture capital fund of Tel Aviv University TAU Ventures is also involved in the accelerator.

Shin Bet's intervention with the private sector follows a similar approach by his counterpart in Mossad, which last year created a fund offering grants of up to 2 million shekels ( $ 548,000) per project to acquire new ideas for spying.
