KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Trevor Bauer effectively pitched the eighth inning and the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-2 on Wednesday night for a three-game sweep.
Michael Brantley had a double RBI lead and the Indians scored all of their runs in the first three innings in one fell swoop. Bauer withdrew eight and chained one in seven innings and two-thirds.
The Royals in free fall have lost six straight and 18 out of 21. They have scored four points or less in 25 of their last 26 games and are just ahead of Baltimore.
After winning the Grand Slam by Francisco Lindor and Yan Gomes the previous two nights, the Indians managed only four hits – two in the ninth inning.
Bauer (8-6) hit eight or more in eight consecutive starts. He allowed seven hits, including six singles, and is 3-1 in his last four starts.
Cody Allen took the ninth to accumulate his 18th stop on 19 occasions.
Lindor walked to start the match, flew second and scored on Brantley's double. Brantley went third on the flyout of Jose Ramirez and scored on Edwin Encarnacion's sacrifice fly.
The Indians made a run without a shot in second. Jason Kipnis and Tyler Naquin opened the round with rides. Roberto Perez advanced both with a sacrificial rifle, and Greg Allen delivered a sacrificial fly.

Dozier made his first big league start at third base. Dozier played 401 games in third place, starting at 281, in the Royals minor league system. He had started 35 games on first base, two on right field and two on DH this season.
