National winger Max Scherzer will start for the National League at the All-Star Game Tuesday on his home pitch, while Red Sox Ace Chris Sale will begin his third straight game for the league American
Scherzer leads the NL with 182 strikeouts and is tied for first place wins with 12. Aaron Nola Philadelphia and Chicago Jon Lester are also 12.
Scherzer is also third in the league with a 2.41 ERA. Dodgers director Dave Roberts, who will head the Netherlands, said Scherzer's departure was "well deserved."
"It's his city," Roberts said. "It's his baseball stadium."
Scherzer kicked off last year's all-star game in Miami and was also the leader in 2013 at Citi Field as a member of the Tigers.
Dirty will become the third All-Star Game pitcher, three years in a row, joining Lefty Gomez (1933-35) and Robin Roberts (1953-55).
Scherzer's teammate, outfielder Bryce Harper, will be sixth for the Netherlands. Harper hits .214 with a percentage based on .365, .468 slugging percentage, 23 homers and 54 RBIs. Despite his difficulties, Harper is an All-Star – voted by the fans – for the sixth time in his seven-year major league career.
