Mary of Magdala in Galilee was a disciple of Jesus using his resources, or wealth, to help support him and his followers. The Gospel of Luke also says that Mary was the woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons and that she was present at his crucifixion and burial. In the four Gospels, Mary was the first witness of the Resurrection and brought this news to others; because of this, St. Augustine called it " apostola apostolorum " the apostle of the Apostles. The traditions that identify Mary as a prostitute or a penitent sinner are now discarded.
She is the patroness of St. Mary Magdalene, Gilbert's Parish and Maggie's Place, her home of Magdalene and Maggie's Thrift.
