On July 28, the Alexandria African-American Short Film Festival lives with striking documentaries

Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 11 am to 3 pm. Alexandria Black History Museum will host a short film festival at The Lyceum featuring works from two award-winning studios in Washington DC and Richmond, Virginia. These filmmakers highlight the stories of African-American personalities, demonstrating that African-American history is the story of America.

The first two films are presented by Robin Hamilton Emmy award-winning journalist, television host, moderator and writer. Currently based in Washington, Robin is correspondent for the news program of the local Tribune Branch, NewsPlus and hosted the award-winning DC50-TV Black History Month series. these last four years. She wrote, produced and directed her first film, This Little Light of Mine: The Legacy of Fannie Lou Hamer A Famous Civil Rights Activist. His Second Documentary, Dignity and Challenge: A portrait of Mary Church Terrell discusses the life of this 19th-century crusader against racial injustice. The film also highlights the need to preserve Terrell's former home in Washington, D.C., its state of disrepair threatens destruction.

Documentaries Hannah Ayers and Lance Warren present two short films. An Outrage which was created in 2017, deals with lynching in the southern United States. He has won numerous awards including the Audience Award at the Indie Grits Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Short Documentary at the Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival. Their second film was produced with a grant from the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Join Historian CR Gibbs to moderate the discussion in the second half of the festival. He is the author / co-author of six books and a respected speaker. Mr. Gibbs has worked with the museums of the Smithsonian Institution and is a researcher of the Social Sciences Council DC
