Three family members were injured Friday in a fire that broke out in a motel in Jerusalem. One of the injured is in serious condition while the other has suffered minor injuries. Police suspect that the fire was deliberately committed and arrested a Palestinian employee at the motel. The reason is not considered to have been political.

According to the fire department, the motel operated without a fire permit and emergency services. Fire Department Cmdr. Moshe Suissa summoned the motel owners to an audience before closing the place.

The fire broke out nearly 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Friday. The fire department said that 10 people trapped inside were cleared, most without being injured. Magen David Adom paramedics took the wounded to Shaare Zedek Medical Center after intensive care teams treated seven people at the scene.

Suissa added that he suspected the motel operated without security measures such as fireproofing and protection against smoke and heat, as well as escape routes.
