Badal’s remark came close on the heels of the statement by Punjab’s Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) that said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has taken cognisance of the matter and resolved it too — to the officer’s satisfaction.

Former Punjab chief minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday (October 24) asked Capt Amarinder Singh to unmask his cabinet minister who has been accused of outraging the modesty of an officer of the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) rank.

Badal’s remark came close on the heels of the statement by Punjab’s Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) that said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has taken cognisance of the matter and resolved it too — to the officer’s satisfaction.

The #MeToo campaign, which had sent a wave of shock across the whole country, finally hit Punjab Police when Inspector General (IG) of police AS Rai received a complaint of badual harbadment against an badistant-sub-inspector (ASI) appointed at the women’s cell in Sangrur.

Rai then ordered a probe into the allegations levelled by the woman.

The SAD and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) then demanded the dismissal of the accused minister. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal also asked the chief minister why he, as well as Congress president Rahul Gandhi, were dragging their feet in taking action against the minister.

In a statement released on October 24, the SAD president said as per media reports, no action had been taken against the cabinet minister who had sent indecent messages to the woman IAS officer more than one-and-a-half months back.

“This, the media reports said, was despite the fact that the IAS officer had brought the matter to the notice of her superior officers and even the Chief Minister,” Badal alleged.

“The Congress and Rahul Gandhi demanded M.J. Akbar’s resignation from the Union cabinet following allegations of badual harbadment when he was the editor,” he said, adding, “but the Congress chief has been actively sheltering someone for similar transgressions.”

AAP woman wing president Raj Lali Gill and co-president Jiwanjot Kaur, in a statement, asked the chief minister to take immediate action against the cabinet minister who was continuously harbading the woman officer.
