Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced on Friday that he was appointing the deputy chief of staff, General Aviv Kochavi, as the next chief of staff of the US Army. Israeli army in place of Gadi Eisenkot.
Lieberman will officially submit the name Kochavi to the chairman of the government nominations committee, retired judge Eliezer Goldberg on Sunday, the defense minister's office said. Subject to the approval of the committee, Lieberman will then submit the appointment to the firm.
The Defense Minister's office announced that he had informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Chief of Staff Eisenkot of his choice.
