Russia Stresses Opposition to US Policy on Iran

Russia underscored its uncompromising position on the illegitimacy of the United States’ sanctions against Iran, vowing to minimize their impact on Moscow-Tehran economic relations.
In a regular briefing on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said her country is taking measures to counter the effects of US restrictions.
“We are taking measures to ensure that they have minimal negative impact on Russian-Iranian trade and economic cooperation,” Zakharova said, Sputnik reported.
The US abandoned the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in May and reimposed economic sanctions on Tehran.
Russia, along with other signatories, has voiced full support for the JCPOA.
“We will do everything possible to preserve the deal that was approved by the UN Security Council,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had said earlier in an address to the UN General Assembly in September.
