An IDF soldier thwarted the attack after identifying the Palestinian as an attempt to stab civilians and an IDF officer, the army said in a statement. The army said the soldier shot the terrorist, who was evacuated for medical treatment. The IDF said no injuries were reported from the incident

The Jewish settlement of Kiryat Arba is just east of downtown Hebron.

The attacker was reportedly evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.

Two weeks ago, the IDF neutralized a terrorist who tried to stab a soldier near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, shooting the terrorist dead.

Israel expanded an industrial park in Kiryat Arba in August and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman pledged further expansion of the city last month.
