Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Friday that Vienna’s suspicions that a retired Austrian colonel had spied for Russia were likely to be confirmed.

VIENNA (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – 09th November, 2018) Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Friday that Vienna’s suspicions that a retired Austrian colonel had spied for Russia were likely to be confirmed.

The Kronen Zeitung media outlet has previously reported that a former colonel of Austrian Armed Forces had been detained on suspicion of conducting espionage in favor of Russia for 20 years.

Earlier in the day, Kurz confirmed that a retired Austrian colonel was suspected of espionage for Russia.

“At the moment, this is a suspicion, it must be investigated and established whether it could be confirmed or not. But given information that we have, as well as taking into account recent events, for example, in the Netherlands, we can at the moment badume that the suspicion will be confirmed,” Kurz told reporters.
