turkey criticized Israel for approving the construction of nearly 800 new homes in illegal settlements in the occupied East Jerusalem early Sunday.

"The Israeli authorities have again violated international law by approving the construction of 792 new homes in the illegal settlements of Ramat Shlomo and Ramot in East Jerusalem," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on its website.

The ministry added that Turkey rejected Israel's illegal moves, which irreversibly undermine the vision of a two-state solution.

This week, Israeli authorities approved the construction of hundreds of new, all-Jewish homes in Occupied East Jerusalem, according to Israeli media reports.

About 650,000 Israeli Jews currently live in more than 100 settlements built since 1967, when Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Palestinians want these territories – as well as the Gaza Strip – to favor the establishment of a future Palestinian state.

International law considers both the West Bank and East Jerusalem as "occupied territories" and considers that any activity of building Jewish settlements is illegal.
