This unequivocally confirms that Luke had been hiding in a cave at the beginning of his treatment with George Lucas. Finally, Lucas's ideas were abandoned, but it is likely that Rian Johnson heard about it at some point and incorporated it into The last Jedi. Another interesting element here: Alzmann says that Luke's first descriptions called him "Colonel Type Kurtz. Kurtz is one of Francis Ford Coppola's main characters Apocalypse Nowand if you saw the movie, you know that Kurtz is foolish. He went crazy – so crazy that the military sent a man to track him down and kill him. It's a hell much darker than what ended up in The last Jedi, where Luke is neither mean nor crazy – he just wants to be left alone.
Beyond all this, art gives us the image of what Luke could have done if this path had been taken. The topknot on his head is a nice touch, reminiscent of Star wars'Samurai movie influences. And he also looks a lot like his former mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The bottom line here, though, is this: If you categorically hate the scenario that Luke abandons his friends and family and hides somewhere, do not blame Rian Johnson.
