Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit has set up a second team to look into corruption cases against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ostensibly to obtain another look at the evidence.
In recent years, Netanyahu has been undermined by charges including receiving allegedly inappropriate gifts from businessmen and providing a counterpart for positive media coverage.

The first team to look into these allegations comes from the finance and taxation department of the prosecutor's office.
The financial daily Globes reported Tuesday that the second team, which would propose a devil's advocate approach, is headed by the Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Affairs, Amit Marari. It also includes lawyers Reut Gordon and Yonatan Kremer of the Department of Economic Affairs of the Public Ministry, the newspaper said.
Kremer is a prosecutor in corruption cases involving Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu party.
In March, Globes announced the formation of a "counter-current" team of prosecutors to present the defense angles of the evidence, which the Justice Department denied.
State Attorney Shai Nitzan said he was unaware of setting up such a team. The Finance and Taxation Department did the same.
Today, the Ministry of Justice states that the latest decision is not unusual, as the Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Affairs is expected to develop an opinion on such cases, as the His predecessor, Raz Nizri – for example, in the case of Lieberman, former Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs.
The main team of prosecutors is led by Tel Aviv's tax and financial affairs attorney, Liat Ben Ari, and his deputy, Jonathan Tadmor.
Marari was appointed Deputy Prosecutor in April 2017. Previously, she was a prosecutor in the Criminal Division, Supreme Court, and International Department as Assistant to Elyakim Rubinstein, Attorney General, 1997. to 2004.
In the past 10 years, she has not worked as a prosecutor but as a senior legal officer in the Legislation and Advisory Department.
