This is the scandal of the century. Qatar, an athletically anecdotal city-state of just 350,000 inhabitants, has been named host to the world's biggest sporting event, the World Cup of Football, beating sports powers such as Australia and Japan.
To make a completely absurd choice, Qatar is also one of the hottest places in the world, with average summer temperatures of 38 ° C and frequently reaching 50 ° C. That is why this event will be held in winter and will disrupt the activity of football leagues the world.
This football federation, the International Football Federation, made this choice in a dishonest way, reinforced by the arrest by Switzerland in 2015 of 14 FIFA officials for various allegations of corruption.
Of course, the easy money from Qatar and the uncontrolled power of FIFA was quite natural, but it was a problem for another if this easy money had not appeared between the Gaza Strip and the Jewish state.
QATAR and Gaza are apparently perfect opposites.
Qatar is sparsely populated, Gaza is more populated than Calcutta. Gaza is a stalemate for foreigners, Qatar is 80% foreign; Qatar's per capita product, $ 130,000, is the highest in the world, about 50 times the per capita product in Gaza's slums.
Nevertheless, Qatar and Gaza are perverts of the same malaise: one is a driver of the misuse of the Arab currency, the other its result.
The Arab currency is the biggest economic tragedy of the post-war period. Although during this period barely a tenth of humanity still has more than one-third of the world's known oil and gas reserves, the Arab world remains essentially poor, poorly educated and underdeveloped.
The Arab petrodollars are not only going where they should have gone – to the Arab mbades – about a third of the wealth of the Arab nation is wasted in arms, an addiction reflected by the appearance of four Arab states in the list of 10 per capita defense.
Saudi Arabia, which tops the list, is also the third largest consumer in the world in absolute terms, with $ 67 billion, more than Russia and India, according to the International Research Institute of peace of Stockholm.
This intra-Arab problem seemed unimportant at the beginning of winter 2010, when FIFA chose Qatar as host of the 2022 World Cup. It was December 2, just 15 days before the seller of Tunisian street Mohamed Bouazizi ignites and triggers the chain reaction of the so-called Arab Spring.
If FIFA had held its vote a little later, even this cynical forum might have understood that it was on the wrong side of history, as was the case in 1978, when it organized the World Cup in Argentina at the very time when his junta was throwing dissidents with helicopters, drugged and handcuffed, into the ocean.
The Arab World Cup will also be organized by representatives of Arab political decadence – those who can do anything, but who in reality do nothing to bring hope to the Arab world.
The estimate of 10 billion dollars. Qatar invests in tournament stadiums, it's money from the Arab nation. The glitzy facilities of the Cup will never again attract crowds like the Cup, and will sooner or later fall into disuse, just as Greece had done after the 2004 Olympics, but faster.
It's the money needed for a source of Arab poverty such as Gaza, not the meager tens of millions of dollars that an apparently generous Qatar pays to the miserable Gaza in a transparent quest to appear as the charitable uncle of his desert cousins. This is not what Gaza needs.
GAZA DOES NOT need charity; it needs investments, funds that will fuel projects that will make the people of this desolate place work and give them the jobs, incomes and dignity that their own leaders have never given them.
Qatar and other Gulf states are well aware of this, but their concern for the oppressed in Gaza does not surpbad that of the millions of Syrian refugees they have left outside their rich land, leaving them instead to board the Dilapidated boats on which they sailed to the unintended Europe. shores.
What will happen to the World Cup remains to be seen; it is now planned to extend it to Kuwait and Oman, to accommodate 48 teams instead of 32. However, discussions on the total relocation of the cup have subsided. Time is running out and if there is no conclusive proof of the bidding process in a year or more, Qatar will keep its unjustly won prize.
Thus, the world that, in recent years, has seen a socially fragile Arab world collapse, overthrow four of its presidents and unleash multiple civil wars, will now help the Arab haves to further steal the poor Arabs.
Qatar – a smaller principality than Connecticut and a smaller population than Lisbon; an oil field whose citizens have never really worked to become as rich as they are; a city that hires over 1.5 million foreigners, mostly non-Arabs, to do almost everything that needs to be done; the most glaring symbol of the ongoing injustice that is making millions of Arabs flare up – can still do something to offset the terrible social impression that his World Cup will create: he may share the World Cup with Gaza.
Qatar should reserve $ 1 billion, build a state-of-the-art stadium in Gaza, and hold it to host some of the 2022 World Cup matches.
In addition to immediately creating thousands of jobs that Gazans desperately need, while demanding an aggressive overhaul of Gaza's needs that Qatar can easily accomplish, it would give Gaza new pride and hope and give its people leaders reason to think of something other than their obsession with Israel.
Indeed, a share in the World Cup could give Gaza what Eurovision now gives Israel: an anti-war tranquillizer.
Moreover, such a contribution to Gaza could become so inspiring that it could serve as an excuse for Qatar's contamination of international sports.
