A taxi driver stolen Friday night in Algiers: NOPD

A 42-year-old taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint on Friday night (July 13) in Algiers, according to New Orleans police.

The driver took a pbadenger in the 1800 block of Wagner Street at approximately 9:30 pm and drove to Block 3300 of Garden Oaks Drive. When they arrived, the pbadenger pulled out a handgun and asked the driver $ 15

. The driver gave him $ 20 and the pbadenger got out of the car and ran away into Garden Oaks Drive, according to a preliminary report.

About 10 minutes later, a 57-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in Uptown, according to the NOPD.

The woman was in block 5600 Annunciation St. around 21:40. when a man in a red hoodie has approached her, according to a preliminary police report. The man pointed out "what she thought was a gun" on her, says the report, and demanded that she give him her purse.

The victim gave his keys to the man and he escaped in his 2001 Subaru Tan, according to the NOPD.

A 27-year-old woman and her friend were robbed at gunpoint in the Marigny later on Friday night, police said.

According to a preliminary police report, the women walked in the 2400 block of Royal Street just before 11 pm. when a man approached them and pulled out a gun. The man asked the women to hand over their handbags and walk away and "do not look back," according to the report.

The man then fled to the west on Chartres Street, police said.

A purse of a 43-year-old woman was kidnapped Saturday morning in the central business district, according to the NOPD. The woman was walking near the intersection of Common and Tchoupitoulas streets after 2 am when a man approached her, ripped off her clutch and ran away, according to a preliminary police report.

About 20 minutes earlier, a 38-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint in Broadmoor, police said. The woman was coming home when a man standing near the intersection of Toledano and South Galvez streets asked him for cigarettes.

When the woman said "no" and continued to walk, the man caught her by the waist and asked her for a preliminary police report. The man then pressed a "cold metal object" against his right arm. The man escaped after the woman gave him his belongings, according to police.
