The Senior Appointments Advisory Committee approved Thursday the appointment of Prof. Amir Yaron as the next governor of the Bank of Israel.

Chaired by former Supreme Court judge Eliezer Goldberg, the committee found no fault with the candidacy of Yaron for the position. The committee has reported its findings to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Candidates for senior state positions must by law be vetted by the committee to ensure that they are qualified to serve.

Yaron, a professor of banking and finance at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, is due to succeed incumbent Governor Dr. Karnit Flug on Monday when she completes her five-year term at the helm of the bank.
