GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – A medical aid group said the large number of patients treated for gunshot wounds in months of violent border protests had flooded Gaza's health system.
Doctors Without Borders claims that thousands of people are at risk of infection and disability because Gaza hospitals can not treat them adequately.
Hamas militant leaders in Gaza have been holding weekly border demonstrations since March, during which protesters are approaching the border fence, throwing incendiary bombs at Israeli troops and burning tires.
Israeli snipers killed about 170 people and injured thousands.
MSF, according to the English acronym for the humanitarian group, said that most of the 3,000 treated patients had been shot in the leg, of which about a quarter had been infected. If left untreated, they can result in a lifetime disability or limb amputation.
