Alan Bowman, a freshman from Texas Tech, was taken to a local hospital on Saturday night for a "recurrence" of a partially collapsed lung, the Red Raiders announced.
Bowman, who initially suffered the injury to West Virginia on Sept. 29, led the Red Raiders to a 31-28 lead at halftime over Oklahoma, seventh in the standings. He was unable to start the second half.
Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Bowman was struggling to "catch his breath" during warm-ups before the start of the second half. Bowman then retired to the locker room with Texas Tech sports coaches and medical staff.
Kingsbury dismissed initial information that Bowman had been injured when he had been hit in the head with a football during these warm-ups, claiming: "It was nothing with his head."
Following the coach's press conference, Texas Tech announced in a statement that Bowman had been transported to Lubbock's Medical Covenant "for his previous injury (partially collapsed lung) to occur in the Virginia match. the West is evaluated.
Jett Duffey replaced Bowman at the quarterback. After a slow start, the second student threw two touchdown pbades and ran for another score, which almost led Texas Tech to a loss of control.
