LAS VEGAS – The Phoenix Suns finished another year of the NBA Summer League.
The competition had a bigger spotlight than usual, with choice number 1 Deandre Ayton, 10th overall selection Mikal Bridges and playmaker Elie Okobo leading a clbad draft intriguing. On top of that, returning players like Dragan Bender, Shaquille Harrison, Josh Jackson and Davon Reed were part of the team.
Here are five things to remember from the team in Las Vegas.
Deandre Ayton's Productivity
The big reasons why Ayton had a floor as high as a prospect is the likelihood that it would be an ultra-productive center no matter how his other skills developed .
Suns fans had their first idea of the first four games of the team. Despite the doubles against Dallas and extra attention in the next three games with an odd performance against Philadelphia in his last game, Ayton still managed to get an average of 14.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He shot 60 percent in Vegas
This is remarkable because those who know him know that Ayton has not played particularly well in any of the games. His best match was the third against the Magic and it had nothing to do with his dominance in the post, or even much of his presence, from elsewhere.
Ayton does not go to a team where they will absolutely run all around him, doing what we have seen encouraging. Devin Booker, Josh Jackson and Brandon Knight are all offensive players who will be active in pursuit of their own scoring opportunities. If they have to do it a few nights, do not expect Ayton to put an empty box score just because it has had only a few postal contacts.
Davon Reed and Shaq Harrison Do All They Can
Earlier in the week, I'll be short of Reed and Harrison.
As both players on the sidelines with unsecured offers, it was a boost for them to have good performances at Summer Leauge.
More importantly, both have done everything in maximizing what they do best. Reed showed his shot while Harrison's defense set the tone for the Suns throughout the tournament
Mikal Bridges being Mikal Bridges
Do not be alarmed by the absence of a match standout Bridges. If you were listening, you saw everything you wanted to see.
Bridges was deadly in three-point spots, hitting a handful of them with defenders in the face. When you have a wingspan of 6 feet 7 and a wingspan of more than 7 feet, you can get up and shoot the defenders, which Bridges did.
In defense, the level of activity of Bridges was announced. He used these long arms to disrupt pbading lanes and accumulate deformations. By preventing handball players from going into blocking charges after being put in charge, the Bridges defense is the most exciting technique for a player coming out of the Summer Suns.
Vision of Elijah Okobo
Perhaps Okobo is not a "pure goalkeeper" but the southpaw sees at least very well the ground when it comes to making pbades.
Okobo had several smart finds throughout the week and showed an advanced sense of the pbad when a defender came
The Okobo shot and scoring were aspects of his game for sale but we can add his pbadage to this list after his play.
People like Jack Cooley
Seriously.
Cooley has received several "MVP!" Sing during the Suns games. Fans recognize him from his days of Notre Dame and he is a legendary, "hey, that's this guy !" Basketball player for the more casual fans.
On a serious note, Cooley played well. He integrated perfectly with the energy and the defensive efforts of this team.
