WWE apparently had the intention of winning the WWE intercontinental title a few weeks ago.
Elias is currently receiving what appears to be a major babyface boost on RAW, with a slow build, but it looks like the WWE was about to really push it through the roof of the red mark. @WrestleVotes reports that Elias was about to win the title of current champion Seth Rollins when they turned the heels of Dean Ambrose last month. It is not clear yet why the title change was canceled.
Elias is now in conflict with Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and the elected general manager Baron Corbin. Rollins will defend his title against Ambrose at the WWE TLC pay-per-view on December 16th. According to some rumors, Elias's push will continue in season 35 of WrestleMania.
Interesting information for those who like this kind of thing: before all the RAW creative projects took torches last month, the original angle of rotation of the Ambrose heel was to make him lose the IC title to Rollins. Who should win the bracelet you ask? Elias.
