HARARE, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) – Cholera cases continue to emerge in Zimbabwe, with the latest incident killing two people and 26 others in Mashonaland province and the center of the country.

The patients are being held at the Mt Darwin District Hospital, Anna Chinyemba, a district nurse, told media.

The Herald announced Wednesday that one person had died Sunday and another had succumbed to waterborne illness Tuesday.

All cases were reported in an artisbad mining area and health officials convened an urgent meeting to end an epidemic.

"We have a cholera problem that erupted on Sunday." Until now, we have 26 patients who have been admitted to the Mt Darwin District Hospital. We have two deaths so far. " said Chinyemba.

"The affected people are artisbad miners in the Mukaradzi mining area, we are trying everything we can to help the victims, we are still investigating the origin of the cholera, we have sent samples to the laboratory to make sure that it is good cholera treat it as such. "

Since then, the World Health Organization has announced the establishment of a cholera treatment camp at Mount Darwin.

The Mukaradzi mine is 25 km from Mount Darwin and there is concern that the disease may spread to neighboring districts.

"We think the outbreak could have been caused by poor sanitation because most of the mining activities in the area are illegal," said Chinyemba.

At least 54 people died of cholera between September and October of this year. Enditem
