FDI deploys an additional Iron Dome in southern Israel

The Israeli army deployed several Iron Dome batteries in southern Israel on Thursday in light of the security conditions.

"The Israeli army is prepared for a number of scenarios and ready to protect the citizens and sovereignty of Israel," said the army.

Shortly after, the Department of Defense announced that Advanced Defense Systems, the developer of the Iron Dome, has successfully completed a series of tests on new developments to improve the Iron Dome system.

The series of tests was conducted by Rafael and was carried out jointly with the Israel Defense Industries, Israel Aerospace Industries, mPrest Systems and with the participation of the Israeli Air Force and the Navy.

"As part of these tests, several types of threats were launched, simulating the threats that are developing in the arena," says a statement on the tests.

On Thursday, five fires broke out in various areas along the Gaza border following incendiary kites and balloons.

The largest fire would have started in the Sycamore Reservoir near Kibbutz Zikim. Dozens of acres of eucalyptus were burned and firefighting teams had a hard time reaching the fire that spread quickly and caused great damage to local agriculture.

Fires also broke out at Sha. HaNegev Regional Council. No injury or damage has been reported.

Fires also broke out in the regional councils of Sdot Negev and Bnei Shimon, where the electrical infrastructure was damaged by the fire.

A fire was also reported near Moshav Tidhar and near Be'eri Forest.

In addition, a balloon containing an explosive device was found in Sderot. A police sapper neutralized the aircraft.
