By entering the halls of the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, it is evident that the revolution of the electric car is gaining ground. Plug-in hybrids abound and vehicles from recent companies such as Rivian are present. Just at the entrance to LA's South Hall, however, is Tesla's stand, which features the company's electric cars and energy products.

Like its exhibitions last year, Tesla presented its three electric car offerings at the 2018 Auto Show, namely a white S model, a red 3 model and a midnight silver X model. Among the new electric and plug – in hybrid cars of other manufacturers, Tesla 's range of electric cars bore an air of experience and authority, apparently invoking the idea that, although the company is only a neophyte in the automotive market, she is a veteran in the field of electric vehicles.

In addition to its range of electric vehicles, Tesla's "House of the Future" also returned to the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Tesla booth section featured the company's residential energy products such as solar panels and Powerwall 2. The model home model also serves as a backdrop for the S, 3 and X models.

The presence of Solar Roof tiles is also notable on the Tesla stand. At the appearance of Elon Musk at Recode Decode Podcast earlier this month, he said that the shingles, currently manufactured at Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, NY, are now installed in about "a few hundred roofs" and that production is expected soon to start. For its stand this year, Tesla has chosen to present the smooth and textured variants of solar shingles.

The presence of Tesla's entire consumer product line at the Los Angeles Auto Show is an indication of the company's next production ramp, both for its electric cars and its energy solutions. Musk noted, for example, that 2019 would likely see the unveiling of Tesla's next vehicle, the Y model, which he curiously called an "intermediate SUV" during the Recode Decode Podcast. When calling the third quarter results, Musk said the Solar Roof tiles would also see a production ramp in 2019.

"We will also start producing the solar tile roof in volume next year. It's a fairly long development cycle because everything on the roof has to last 30 years. So, even if you accelerate life tests as quickly as possible, there is still a minimum amount of time to do so. And there is a lot of engineering involved in putting up the roof in solar energy tiles without much work. So, there is a lot of engineering not only in the tile, but in the way it is done, "said Musk.

Tesla's booth at the LA 2018 Motor Show is located near the entrance to the South Hall of the LA Convention Center, next to the Audi and Genesis booths. Tickets for the event can be viewed here.
