Two people died and 12 others are in hospital after a shootout in the Greektown neighborhood in Toronto Sunday night, according to the Ontario Special Investigations Unit.
A person killed is a woman. One of the wounded, a girl of eight or nine, is in critical condition, according to authorities.
The UES said the alleged gunman, 29, was also dead. The Toronto police, meanwhile, are working to determine what may have led to the violence.
Police Chief Mark Saunders urged the public to share any information on the shooting, including a video of what happened. He said the police do not know what triggered the attack, but that she is studying all the possibilities.
"I look at every possible motive for that," he said. "When you have so many people hit by gunfire, it's a serious concern."

According to the UES, which investigates shootings involving police, a man walking along Danforth Avenue fired several times at groups of people around 10 pm ET on Sunday
The UES said the police had spotted the shooter on Bowden Street and that an exchange of fire had occurred. The UES said that the gunman had fled the area and had been found dead on Danforth Avenue.
Saunders said that the suspect was not clear but that no police officer had been injured.
