This is a story in development.

(JTA) – J.B. Pritzker, a Jewish Democrat, will be the next governor of Illinois and Democrat Jared Polis will be the first Jewish governor and the first gay governor of Colorado.

Here are more results in the races that matter to Jews:

House of Representatives

In Michigan, Rashida Tlaib, who was to win, will become the first Palestinian-American to enter Congress. Tlaib supports a one-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and opposed US aid to Israel. She will also be one of the first Muslim women in Congress, along with Ilhan Omar, who is expected to win the Minnesota victory.

And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York's progressive millennium who won a frustrated primary victory earlier this year, will become the youngest woman to ever be elected to Congress. Ocasio-Cortez criticized the Israeli occupation in the West Bank and described its clashes with protesters in Gaza as a "mbadacre".

Leslie Cockburn, the Democratic House candidate who wrote a book sharply criticizing Israel, will lose her run in Virginia.

Republicans accusing the Democratic Party of being removed from its pro-Israel good faith cited Cockburn, Tlaib, Ocasio-Cortez and Omar as examples.

Lena Epstein, a Jewish businesswoman from the Jewish community in Detroit, who has invited a messianic defrocked rabbi to speak at a rally under the chairmanship of Vice President Mike Pence, will lose. The result is a democratic transfer of a seat in the House. Epstein was the president of the 2016 Trump campaign in Michigan.

In North Carolina, longtime Jewish philanthropist and Jewish leader Kathy Manning has lost her race. She was the first woman to preside over the Jewish federations of North America and was one of the founders of Prizmah, an badociation that oversees Jewish schools.

Arthur Jones, the neo-Nazi who won the Republican nomination for the South Side of Chicago, lost his race, as expected. He had won his nomination without opposition and had been repudiated by his party.

Senate

Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey, a pro-Israel Democratic pillar, should win. He voted against the 2015 agreement on the Iranian nuclear program, against President Barack Obama and his own party. Menendez had been hampered by a corruption lawsuit that had resulted in a trial failing last year.

Governors' Races and Voting Initiatives

Pritzker is expected to win the governor's race in Illinois, defeating Republican Bruce Rauner. Pritzker, a centrist democrat, is a billionaire in venture capital.

Polis, 42, a former tech mogul, will succeed John Hickenlooper as governor of Colorado. His campaign is focused on renewable energy, education and income inequality.

In Florida, voters took the initiative to vote to restore the voting rights of 1.5 million former candidates, which could be advantageous for Democrats in the next elections. Jewish groups led the charge to pbad the initiative.

Democrats hope to win a majority in the House of Representatives, or even in the Senate, by the end of the night. JTA will continue to report results as soon as they arrive.
