JOHANNESBURG (AP) – The UN agency for children said the number of young people living with HIV could decline by about a third, to reach 1.9 million. here 2030, while the number of children dying each year from AIDS-related causes could fall by almost half, reaching 56,000 in 2030.

His new report indicates that while the expected decline in HIV cases is good news, it is still too slow.

The report says that 270,000 people under the age of 19, the majority in Africa, could be infected by 2030 alone.

The report released Saturday on World AIDS Day is particularly worrying in Africa, where the rise of youth is expected to double the continent's population by 2050.

According to UNICEF, just over half of HIV-positive children under the age of 14 are currently on treatment.
