Israeli police arrested 32 residents of East Jerusalem Sunday night suspected of being illegally enlisted in the Palestinian Authority security forces.
According to a statement by the police, the suspects were Israeli residents and some were receiving social benefits from the state while also serving in the PA armed forces.
According to the statement, these activities were illegal under the terms of the 1994 Gaza-Jericho agreement, a treaty following the Oslo Accords.

The arrests took place at the end of a secret investigation into the Palestinian Authority's operations in Israel, the statement said.
During the search of the houses of the suspects, the police said that police found tens of thousands of shekels in cash, weapons, ammunition, uniforms and various documents from the Palestinian Authority security forces.

Police said the suspects were engaged in activities that "directly affect the personal security of Israeli Arabs".
The suspects were taken for interrogation and should be brought before a judge for a removal hearing later Monday.
The operation came a day after the police arrested the Palestinian Authority governor in Jerusalem for the second time in as many months, apparently as a result of a Palestinian Authority investigation into a sale of land to East Jerusalem.
Adnan Ghaith was arrested on Saturday in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem as he was leaving the wedding of a family member. The police gave little details about Ghaith's arrest, claiming only that he was suspected of financial offenses.
According to media reports in the Hebrew language, Israeli authorities are investigating Ghaith after arrest by the Palestinian Authority last month of a man accused of selling a property in Jerusalem -Is a Jewish buyer.

Last month, Ghaith was arrested for two days before being released. The national security agency of Shin Bet said that it was "an illegal activity of the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem".
Ghaith and Jihad Faqih, director of the Palestinian Authority's general intelligence services in Jerusalem, were arrested when they suspected that they had helped kidnap a Palestinian-American living in Jerusalem, who had then placed under the custody of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. Their lawyers told Reuters.
Ghaith and Faqih both denied the charges, according to their lawyers.
Israel, which has annexed East Jerusalem in a way that has not been internationally recognized, almost does not allow the Palestinian Authority to operate in Jerusalem.
