Jets’ Sam Darnold will miss Week 10 vs. Bills, sat out Wednesday practice in walking boot

Sam Darnold spent the Jets’ Wednesday practice watching from the sideline with a walking boot on his right foot.

Now it looks like he may miss some game time, too.

Darnold will miss Sunday’s game against the Bills and could miss the Jets’ Week 12 game against the Patriots – after their bye – as well, according to the New York Daily News.

Apparently Darnold’s foot has a “significant sprain,” which will lead to some time off, the Daily News reported.

The rookie quarterback did say that he “got a little dinged up” after Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, but both he and head coach Todd Bowles downplayed the injury during their Monday conference call with reporters.

“He has not expressed that to me,” Bowles said. “I didn’t know he was dinged at the time, but the injury report will be out Wednesday. I’ll have a better update then when I go down there.”

Shortly after Bowles’ comments, Darnold also poo-pooed any potential injury talk.

“Yeah, I feel fine,” Darnold said. “Some bumps and some bruises but everything is good.”

Darnold was sacked four times and hit seven times by the Dolphins.

Wednesday was the first time this season that Darnold has missed a practice. Up until this week, he had only been listed on the Jets’ injury report once, back in Week 7.

That stint on the injury list was brief – Darnld was listed as a full practice participant with a right elbow injury in the lead up to Week 7. That injury was sustained when he made a tackle after throwing an interception against the Colts the previous week. The injury was ultimately minor and did not affect Darnold’s status for the game.
