Liberman on the terrorist death penalty bill: "we will not stop until we have succeeded"

After Netanyahu gave the green light, Israeli Defense Secretary Avigdor Liberman promised on Tuesday that the administration would not give up until it was able to pbad a resolution. a bill that more easily allows the death penalty for terrorists.

Liberman announced Tuesday morning that the "draft law on the death penalty for terrorists" would be submitted to a hearing by the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee of the Knesset for discussion next Wednesday before its first reading in plenary.

"We will not give up and we will not stop until we finish the mission," said the defense minister.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the bill, which would make it easier for the justice system to sentence terrorists convicted of murder to death.

Israeli law already allows the death penalty in some cases, although no one has been executed by Jewish states since the Nazi SS officer Adolf Eichmann in 1962.

As of now, the law provides for a unanimous decision for an execution to take place. The draft law, which adopted its preliminary vote in January, allows the execution of terrorists sentenced for the killing of Israeli civilians if the majority of judges sitting in court approve it.

Israeli media reported on Monday that Netanyahu had approved the bill at a Sunday coalition meeting at the request of the Minister of Education and head of the Jewish community, Naftali Bennett.

The EU condemned the evolution of the law, saying the use of the death penalty is "inhuman and degrading".
