Members of the Likud Knesset are urged to sign a petition Sunday reiterating that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and only Netanyahu, is the party's candidate to form the next government.
The petition came after Yisrael Beytenu's leader, Avigdor Liberman, declared Saturday night at Channel 12's Meet the Press program that he wanted to see a Likud prime minister who is not Netanyahu and suggested Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein.
"We, the undersigned candidates on the Likud list for the 22nd Knesset, emphasize that we will not receive dictation from any other party," the petition says.
"Regardless of the outcome of the election, Netanyahu is the only Likud candidate to the Likud prime minister, and there will be no other candidate.
The petition campaign was launched by MP David Bitan and immediately approved by Tourism Minister Yariv Levin, among other Netanyahu faithful. The top 40 party candidates will be invited to sign the petition.
Edelstein, Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Communications Minister David Amsalem all issued statements Saturday night condemning Liberman for being ingested in their party.
Number two blue and white, Yair Lapid, tweeted the approval of Liberman's comments Sunday.
"Bibi is right," wrote Lapid. "Behind his back, the whole Likud is already looking for his successor and is talking about nothing but that.At the present time, they are whispering, but not for long."

Netanyahu spokesman Yonatan Urich mocked Lapid's reaction to the petition saying that Blue and White was planning to arrest his four leaders against each other. during a day.
