John Krasinski's Sunday Night Prods. is the production of biopic at Universal.

Matt Damon is in early negotiations to play the role of disgraced billionaire Marc Rich in Universal The King of Petroleum .

The studio opted for the book of Daniel Ammann The King of Petroleum: The Secret Life of Marc Rich for John Krasinski's Sunday Night Prods. Krasinski, who blushes after directing the horror film at Quiet Place will produce the biopic that sheds new light on one of the most controversial international businessmen of all the temperature. The book was first published by St. Martin's Press in 2009.

Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse will adapt the screenplay.

The hope is that Damon, who has a long history with the studio whose Bourne franchise, will star as the businessman who fled to Europe rather than to face a prison sentence. The late Rich, who was married to composer Denise Rich, was finally pardoned by President Clinton on his last day in power. Forgiveness was controversial because Denise Rich had made a significant contribution to the New York Senate campaign in Hillary Clinton and the founding of the Clinton Library.

Allyson Seeger, Krasinski's partner in Sunday Night Prods, produced alongside Vincent Sieber and Uri Singer.

Mark Sourian will supervise the production for Universal

The Boston natives, Damon and Krasinski, collaborated on a number of projects, including writing and starring in the Promised Land of Gus Van Sant . They also served in the production team of Manchester by the Sea .

Damon is represented by WME and Ziffren Brittenham. Krasinski is managed by WME and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. Shrapnel & Waterhouse are taken over by CAA, Curtis Brown Group, Grandview and Lawyer Sean A. Marks.
